Weekend Edition Reflections on the Presidency of George W. BushVoices in the MirrorBy STEPHEN MARTIN
T hey did as good a job as they could with ‘Dubya’ concerning the working of fiction. But one cannot make silk purse from sow’s ear. ‘Dubya’ was ‘Manchurian’ really, way of ‘Candidate’; a ‘tabula rasa’ to ‘spinmeister’ - yet who lacked even the talent of Ronald Reagan as an actor to read line? In that ‘void’ as lipstick trace of consciousness; true responsibility as capacity for moral cogitation stunted - context of pragmatism political, a child froze as by trauma, overly protected as expression of ‘fortunate son’ and as misnomer such sense as recognises metaphysic? (Of such as Blake: concerning ‘mental health, and mental wealth’?) Little apparent, as per Margaret Thatcher’s quote concerning ‘poor Ronnie’ apropos of POTUS 40, between Dubya’s ears by way of ‘intellectual power’, and certainly a lack of capacity to perceive consequence of actions in moral context – else how could one mock the plea of someone sentenced to death; let alone commit Supreme Crime against Humanity - then joke about it? ‘No weapons of mass destruction here’? You know, there is a case for actually feeling sorry for ‘Dubya’; a shadow of a man or ‘anti-man‘ as Himmler was described; a ‘President’ who never really understood as what responsibility he was yet believed by so many to have, as condemned to re-live so many times, so great the ‘abrogation’ in the failure of ability to step up to plate Presidential; such the inevitability of being a stooge to far ‘greater’ schemer behind the scenes pulling strings, and ‘backslap’ given there from experienced in sense of pride - despite consequences manifest? Politics is a murky business, none more so than in America? Strike that – possibly Mr Mugabe has a lesson to teach such sense. This small article containing multiple and manifold terms of derogation – the point being that they are not directed primarily ‘ad hominen’ - for that would be Quixotic in tilt of lance - and failure to recognise ‘misnomer’. The child being the father of the man. In medicine, one does not treat the symptom of disease; one treats the cause. Black plague message: look not at the flea, but the rat as host. ‘Poor ‘Dubya’ the sentiment, as pity be preferred to scorn; while the expropriators of Democracy as Stateless; Corporatists as would spin ‘Kleptocracy as Meritocracy’ and subvert Democracy, the real subject worthy of scorn, as a disease carrying rat. Not ‘Dubya’ such smidgeon seen being as poor, lost soul; but rather the system producing and marketing ‘object of utility’ as ‘candidate’, as cancerous to humanity, and as would use ‘tool’, being the target of vilification. God knows such ‘individual’ as George W Bush will have his own demons to face. ‘I could have been a President, Karl’ indeed, as in paraphrase of quote from ‘On the Waterfront’; could have changed things for the better, instead of making worse, could have alleviated rather than exacerbated human sufferance, say nought of planet and ‘Gaia’; and ‘human being co-existing peacefully with fish’ indeed. George W Bush never had a chance. Let me repeat that sentence, because it sounds ridiculous. George W Bush never had a chance. Yes, he was indeed a ‘fortunate son’ exemplary, but had no ‘control’ other than in the sense as expropriated; as become echo in the hollowness present of stooge willing? No real will of his own; such the bafflement even in face of fortune, as ‘son’? But that there was a ‘willingness’ perverse; as in mock of plea of prisoner to be executed; a desire to be seen as ‘heroic’ as in flight suit worn despite being member of ‘champagne unit’ and protected as same, a condemnation to be ‘cheerleader’ when ‘quarterback’ the real desire within and as laughable? – but that this ‘man’ would be ‘President of the United States’ one day; expression of fiction born of the arrogation of privilege writ large; hope for change by body of humanity denied - form of Kleptocracy? Mission Accomplished? Such body incorporative as rising above division on grounds of race, creed, color or religion as unwittingly furthered; degenerate as ‘stooge’ such sense those who hold up? As ‘force’ be in the ‘majeure’, and death such sense of ‘raising’ be as in the snuffing out of candlelight particularly dim in the burning; way of epiphenomenon morally aspirated? Or as flea can be unto rat concerning disease? POTUS 43 the obverse of the role Tom Hanks played so close to perfection; the ‘idiot’ whose true fortune included morality such the basic premise as ‘life being like a box of chocolates’? ‘Dubya’ as mean and nasty version of ‘Forrest Gump’? In Dubya’s case, such idiocy; morality denied, life being like ‘a bag of frogs’? Napalm ‘melts’ chocolate and flesh alike George; say nought of skull and bones. ‘My Momma (‘the one who instils fear’) says’, as the obverse – and so little within as to have the capacity to deny; to realise that one is responsible for the reality as one makes; writ proportional as to scale in ‘Presidential’ the role? ‘Beautiful mind maternal’, indeed. In a nutshell: the Devil truly showed contempt for humanity with ‘Dubya’ cast as President as consequence of lie – the ‘fictional President’ indeed, by such fruition recognised. Can a ‘puppet’ commit atrocity? Does the poor soul that be ‘Dubya’ have any glimmering of comprehension as to what sufferance, what degeneracy, allowed under his ‘watch’? He being such as would look upon wrist for timekeeping piece such question posed; such absence of grasp tragically found? Ask of atrocity as significant, not to say ‘huge’, disappointment the many human beings who suffered to signify the abhorrence moral? Ask why the United States can now be compared more readily to Nazi Germany; having cast aside Nuremburg Law, having it’s own concentration camps – and, in form of Gaza, ‘nourishing’ the largest world ever seen? Apropos of recent action; for ‘Concentration’ read ‘Death’? Ask why Mussolini described Fascism as ‘Corporatism’ – while thinking of such ‘body Corporate’ as ‘Halliburton’? Think of the money as was expended; way of sustaining illusion as ‘Dubya’ as President, expropriating will as Democratic, subjugating humanity to hellish nightmare of ‘Stateless’; such as ‘game still on’ given that Barack Obama’s campaign was the most expensive in American Political history – and funded by same ‘playmaker’? ‘Playing’ – because that is what it is all about, really? The millions of innocents who died, and those yet to so do, as a result of ‘Dubya’ Bush’s Presidency all a ‘game’ really- the ‘reality’ being cinematographic as of final scene of ‘Cross of Iron’ – when death is seen as it is, as a joker to laughter protracted and hysterical in the incongruence? Such the cocoon as real sense of consequence lost; such the dominance of ‘corporate line’ existent? ‘Genealogically’ speaking, all such moral idiocy as POTUS 43 represented was as ‘Corporate line’. ‘Heck of a job, Brownie’. As people clung to their lives; aspirations gone, beliefs shattered. ‘Significant disappointment’? So here it is George. You did have a chance. You could have been a ‘contender’. For recognition valuable beyond measure. You may live out the remainder of your tragic life in material comfort relative, as indeed is measurable way of ‘riches bodily’. But sometimes, just sometimes; you will have to look in the mirror. Be it to shave; to check your new hairstyle, be it while brushing your teeth – such ‘brand’ of toothpaste as you share with Tony Blair – ‘from the bowels reptilian’ by way of peristalsis? That mirror will show to you, if there is any justice – which there is – the blood of the many as have died, oft in agony, the tears of the mothers and fathers of those loyal and true sent to their deaths for Corporate gain, the sound being as ‘Racket’ Smedley Butler stated true; showing just for you such reflection what it really means to seek to destroy human belief and hope, showing you the ‘dirtiness’ of blood as Pinter put such sense of War, no matter the newness of designer clothes bought and freshly laundered; show what you ‘elected’ to abrogate, given the lie of your existence ‘Presidential’ as ‘time of village idiot ascendant’ - and in so doing will visit upon you the accumulated sins born of serving ‘reptile’ in succumbing; such the lack of aspiration realised? Will show you the humanity you ‘elected’ to abrogate and consign towards despair as expression of ‘fortunate son’ as challenge existential; the lines of the unemployed and the angst of ‘failure’ despite the trying desperate and humane to be able to ‘put food on their families’ as your own mangle churned. For the rest of your life George, and then some ‘morphogenetic’, the mirror will reflect the wisdom of your own words, as per truth, out of mouth of babe: ‘A huge disappointment. A significant disappointment’. This will be as the voice to be contemplated such as ye can muster; spoken so many languages accordant of sufferance manifold and diverse? -Are you still ‘laughing’ now that the mirror is beginning to talk? But here understanding as ‘Olive Branch’ extended; quarter as would be humane – ‘Never had a chance.’ That be the epitaph of an idiot, cast Presidential, way of contempt? Cuts both ways, as they say. For the people, and of the people? That’s ‘people’ George; despite what the mirror may say as you look within it - form of ‘scrying’ indeed. Such be the glory of far greater than thee as elected truly to serve, or indeed served. Such the plate George; and you failed to step up to it, let alone drag foot such direction. Though you be gone such challenge; that plate; it remains immemorial. Voices in the mirror… ‘Bring em on’ - as compassion? George W Bush. POTUS 43, 2001-2009.
